East of Scotland Institue of Sport

The East of Scotland Institute of Sport (ESIS) is one of six Area Institutes in Scotland which form an integral part of the Scottish Institute of Sport Network. Officially launched in 2001, ESIS has been set-up to offer the East of Scotland’s most promising young athletes access to essential support services, wherever they live, work or train.

ESIS aims to provide selected athletes with individually tailored programmes designed to help improve their performances, achieve selection to the Scottish Institute of Sport and ultimately develop their potential to reach the top level in their chosen sport.

The Scottish Area Institutes are partnerships between local agencies involved in the development of performance sport along with sportscotland and the Scottish Institute of Sport. Funding comes from local partners and sportscotland lottery fund. The six areas are: East of Scotland, West of Scotland, Tayside & Fife, Central, Grampian, and Highland. These are not single site centres but networks of people, facilities and services.

The local East of Scotland partnership includes: Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Leisure, University of Edinburgh, East Lothian Council, Midlothian Council, City of Edinburgh Council, Scottish Borders Council, West Lothian Council, Napier University, Edinburgh’s Telford College, sportscotland and The Scottish Institute of Sport.
